Things to know when staying at NEST

General FAQs

Who can live at NEST?

Any full-time student registered at a recognised tertiary education institution or any young professionals under 29 years of age, can live at NEST.

How do I view a room?

Please contact Debbie on 0743304222 to schedule a viewing, or visit our website for a detailed description of NEST.

What is the length of a lease?

The length of the lease starts from the 1St of February and end on the 31 of January the following year. ( It is a yearly lease).

What is included in the room price?

NEST provides an all-inclusive service to ensure you have a hassle-free experience. The following are all included in the room price:

  • Uncapped Wi-Fi
  • Washing and drying facilities
  • DSTV & Netflix in the TV Lounges
  • Vibrant and collaborative student community
  • 24 hour security
  • Partially and Fully furnished apartments
  • Biometric access
  • Secure accommodation close to campus

Can I choose a specific room and what room types are available?

All of our rooms are exactly the same, the view differs between each floor. All our two bedroomed apartments are sharing ; however, you have your own room and just share a bathroom and kitchen.

Can I choose my friend as my neighbour in the two bedroom apartment?

Yes. You can choose a friend just send an email detailing you and your friends details via email debbie@nest.co.za

How do I apply?

Applying online is easy and shouldn’t take you more than 15 minutes. If you have any difficulty, please do not hesitate to contact us on Debbie 0743304222 or email debbie@nest.co.za. Once you have received your room number, signed the lease agreement and paid your deposit Fee’s, your room will be secured for you. You can view our lease Agreement and Terms and Conditions on our website.

How do I know my application has been received?

You will receive an instant e-mail notification that will confirm your application.

How do I know a room has been allocated to me?

You will be informed of your room via e-mail, together with the lease Agreement which you will need to sign. Once you have paid your Deposit Fees, your room will be secured for you.

How are the rooms allocated?

Rooms are allocated on a first come first serve basis.

Is there parking available?

Yes, we have secure undercover parking bays available at our building (at additional cost).

What happens when I decide to cancel my application?

You may cancel your application at any time but the R 1000.00 application fee is non-refundable.

What fees are payable with my application?

The following fees are payable upon submitting your online application

  • R1500 administration fee with application (non-refundable).
  • R1500 service charge fee (per annum), including deposits are payable on signature of lease agreement.

What fees are payable before I occupy my room?

Your service charges fee, and your Deposit, is payable before you occupy your room.

What other services can I apply for together with applying for my room?

NEST offers various extras to make your move in hassle-free. Book them together with your room when applying online.

Our hassle-free extras include:

  • Bicycle storage
  • Parking
  • Motorbike parking
  • Sleepovers
  • Fully furnished

Is there extra storage space available?

There will be extra on-site storage space available in the near future.

Do I need to vacate my room in the holidays?

No. You do not need to vacate your room during student holidays and are able to stay through permanently for your entire lease period.

Check-In FAQ

When can I Check-in?

Your specific Check-in date will be made by appointment.

How do I book my Check-in appointment and why is it important?

You can book your appointment via email and a confirmation email will be sent to you regarding your check-in date. It is very important to book your Check-in appointment so that we can assist you on the day of your arrival and ensure you have a hassle-free experience and hand over your room keys as well as do a defects list.

Where do I go to Check-in on the date of my arrival?

You Check-in at security and they will advise Debbie (Property Administrator) that you are in the building and she will help you to your room to make your Check-in as hassle free as possible.

How do I access the building?

During Check-in your finger will be scanned to allow you biometric access to NEST.

How do I access my room?

During Check-in you will be given a set of keys to access to your room.

What is included in my room?

We offer partial & fully-furnished rooms so that you can move in and stay hassle-free.

1) In the bedroom:

  • ¾ Bed and quality  mattress with base storage
  • Built-in wardrobe
  • Blinds
  • Desk and chair
  • Notice board
  • Shelves
  • Hooks
  • Art work
  • Full length mirror

2) Bathroom with shower

  • Storage drawers

3) In the kitchen:

  • Fridge and freezer combo
  • Microwave, Oven and two plate stove top
  • Kitchen counter top
  • Two kitchen chairs
  • Kettle & Toaster

What do I need to bring with me?

We want you to come prepared, therefore we have listed a few items, as a guideline, that you can bring with you:

1) For your kitchen:

  • Crockery and cutlery
  • Glasses
  • Pots and pans
  • Dustbin
  • Broom
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Refuse bags

2) For your bathroom:

  • Toiletries
  • Toilet paper
  • Towels
  • Shower rug
  • Laundry washing powder and softener
  • Laundry basket
  • Small bathroom bin

3) For your bedroom:

  • Linen
  • Duvet
  • Pillows
  • Extra blankets
  • Desk lamp
  • Books

  • A small bin
  • Your own small fridge (If extra fridge space is needed)

Facilities FAQ

Is there a Gym on site?

Yes! there is a communal gym free to use on the rooftop. There are also Gyms in the area which can be of use, such as Virgin active and the UCT gym.

Is Wi-Fi available?

We provide fast and reliable internet throughout the whole building, the rooms and the communal areas.

What about my courier deliveries?

We love receiving and keeping your packages safe for you. You may have your packages delivered to the Security/ Reception. They will notify you when your package has arrived.

Which DSTV channels are available?

The full DSTV package & Netflix is available.

Does NEST offer on-site laundry facilities?

Yes, NEST has self-help laundry facilities on the 1st and 3rd floors, operated by R 5 coins for the washer and dryer.

Is there extra storage space available?

There is limited storage space available otherwise you can contact Spacebox, a company offering short term storage for personal belongings. Please visit their website at www.spacebox.co.za.

Will my room be cleaned?

You are responsible for the cleaning of your own room, but our cleaning service will clean the rooms once a month.

Does NEST provide me with meals?

No, However, our students have the facilities and choice to cook in their own room.

How do I report a maintenance issue?

We don’t want anything to make your stay less than amazing. Therefore, please report any maintenance issue in your room or in any communal area to Security/Reception as soon as possible. We have an on-site maintenance team ready to fix any problem you have during weekly working hours. You may report maintenance using the following channels:

Please remember to state your room number and your maintenance request.

Living at NEST

Are there rules regarding noise?

Yes, NEST has a no noise policy, to ensure our students are well rested and have sufficient time to study in peace. The rule is stipulated in our House rules guidelines which can be downloaded from our website.

Can I smoke in my room?

No, you may not smoke in your Room, any part of the Building, corridors or any Communal Areas. You may only smoke at the designated outside smoking areas.

May I invite friends over?

Yes, you are most welcome to invite your friends over, but remember that you are responsible for them and they must adhere to the House rules.

May friends or family sleep over?

Yes, One friend or family member may sleep over, but you would have to pay a sleepover fee as well as getting permission for the sleepover from Debbie (Property Administrator) who will then inform security. No one can stay or sleep over in your room when you are not there. You are also not allowed to sublet the room. We want our students to know they are safe.

Is there a curfew?

No, there is no curfew! You can come and go as you like. With our biometric access, you can enter the building and your room at any time, hassle-free.

Are there any snacks in the building?

Yes! There is a snack vending machine in building.

Check-Out FAQ

When do I need to Check-out?

Your specific Check-out date will be stipulated in the Lease Agreement. All students will be required to vacate their rooms before or on this date.

How do I schedule a Check-out inspection?

You must schedule a check-out inspection appointment with Debbie (Property Administrator).

Why do I need to attend a Check-out inspection?

It is important to attend your Check-out inspection because it will determine your deposit refund. You may make your room beautiful during the year, but at the end of the year we need to bring the room back to the same condition it was before you moved in, and that cost will be deducted from your deposit.

When will my Deposit be refunded?

Your deposit will be refunded after an exit inspection has been performed by both parties and accounts have calculated your refund deposit.
